How do I connect the Alpha Pro Portable monitor to my laptop?

Want to get the most out of your Alpha Pro Portable Monitor? Discover the different connection options in this guide and choose the method that fits your laptop perfectly.

The Alpha Pro offers three ways to connect the monitor, depending on the available inputs on your laptop. Below we explain which options there are and what you should pay attention to.

  1. <no signal> sign, here's how to fix it
  2. Black screen? No power input!
  3. Connection with 2x USB-C
  4. Connection with 1x USB-C and HDMI + USB
  5. Connection with 5-in-1 cable (2x USB and HDMI)

1. <no signal> sign, here's how to fix it!

When the monitor displays the message <no signal> , it means that the monitor is receiving power , but no video signal yet.

This can happen when you use the USB-C cable in a USB-C laptop port that is not full-featured . As a result, the USB-C port only supports power delivery and data transfer, but no video output.

This issue can also occur if you connect a USB cable without using an HDMI cable. In that case, the video signal is missing , resulting in the <no signal> message.

Check the connection options below to choose the right configuration that matches your laptop's inputs. This will ensure that both power and video are delivered correctly to the monitor!

2. Black screen? No power input!

If your screen shows a black screen and does not give a signal when you plug in a cable, this is because the portable monitor is not receiving power.

For example, if you only add an HDMI to your display, no screen will light up on the monitor. Since the monitor needs power from your laptop, you will need to add a USB.

2. Connection with 2x USB-C

This is the easiest and most user-friendly method. If your laptop has two USB-C ports, both of which are full-featured USB-C ports , you can connect the monitor with just two cables.

A full-featured USB-C input supports both power delivery, data transfer and video output. Check your laptop for this feature by checking the specifications or see the illustrations for more information.

Not sure if your laptop has a full featured usb-c port? Feel free to send an email to info@officegoodsonline.com and we will find out for you.

3. Connection with 1x USB-C and HDMI + USB

Only have one full-featured USB-C input? No problem! In this case, you can connect one screen of the Alpha Pro via the USB-C cable . The second screen should be connected with an HDMI and USB cable .

* HDMI is used as input for the monitor's video feed.

* USB provides power.

Make sure your laptop has an HDMI output and check that you have the correct cables on hand.

4. Connection with 5h cable and 2x USB + HDMI

For laptops without USB-C ports, the Alpha Pro still offers a solution. With a 5H cable, you can simulate an additional HDMI connection. Here, you use a non- full-featured USB-C port or a USB-A port.

With this method:

Connect the 5H cable to a non-full featured USB-C or USB port .

Then use the USB-to-USB-C cable to transfer power to the display where the h5 cable is connected.

The second screen needs to be connected with an HDMI and USB cable .

While this method requires a bit more cable management, it's a useful option for older laptops or laptops with limited modern connectivity options.

For the H5 cable you need to install a driver, click here to read how this works!

5. How do you determine the correct connection method?

1. Check the ports on your laptop: Look for USB-C, HDMI, or USB-A ports and note which ones are available.

2. Check if your USB-C port is full-featured: You can find this in your laptop's manual or on the manufacturer's website.

This handy guide will show you exactly how to connect the Alpha Pro Portable Monitor and get the most out of your new screen.
